Casey Affleck sends 2016 out for SNL with a bang with some help from Chance the Rapper.
Casey Affleck is currently getting lots of press for his work in Manchester-By-The-Sea, which looks really good but also really sad/depressing. He’s a great choice to host SNL, but the episode right before SNL takes a holiday break is interesting – that’s usually the time they bring in an old cast member to really help things go out with a bang. Luckily, Chance the Rapper was musical guest and popped up in a few sketches – he really brightened things up throughout the episode.
What You Missed:
Cold Open: A Donald Trump Christmas
Okay, John Goodman and Beck Bennett made this work.
Monologue:
This was sort of all over the place, content-wise, but dang did the jokes land.
Dunkin Donuts
This is an accurate commercial for Dunkies and I don’t know why it was shown during SNL.
Microsoft Tech Expo
Hey, Fred Armisen! There were some great reactions in this from Keenan and Aidy
Christmas 2016
Chance the Rapper and Keenan are delightful in this.
Santa Claus Encounter
I’ve been waiting for this character of Kate’s to re-appear this season. This disappointed slightly, but was still pretty good
Weekend Update
- Che and Jost going in on Trump in this one was wonderful
- Oh, hey, the “best friends” showed up. Never truly liked this set of characters.
- Rescued jokes!
New York Now!
Okay this was great AND had Chance as the Three Wisemen.
Hillary Love Actually
I kind of loved this.
Mrs. Claus’ Christmas Feast
These elves again! I love how it’s become canon on SNL that Aidy’s Mrs. Claus is a secret freak.
Christmas Ale House
this escalated nicely for a 12:55 sketch
Musical Guest Time!
Everything in this episode was pretty good, including Chance the Rapper’s performances. Check them out!
