24: Live Another Day — “Edgar! Noooooooo!” – Dave Barry

When Dave “David” Barry ended his syndicated column in 2005 the world – nay, the world – became a little less funny, a little less weird, a little less filled with running commentary on the weirdly funny world that was the television series 24.

Except for that last part. Barry continued live-blogging the exploits of the Counter-Terrorism Unit (or ‘TCU’ for short; go Horned Frogs!) through the end of the series in 2010 and now the start and end of the series in 2014. No word on his commitment to live-blogging the next series finale in 2018, although we all wonder why 24 feels the need to sync with the World Cup.

Dave Barry’s Blog – Coverage of ’24’

Barry’s signature sense of humor1 is continually on display, albeit in a more abbreviated form, making many of these micro-recaps a far more entertaining way of watching 24 than watching 24.2 I myself dropped in and out of watching the series, but found myself well caught up by paging through Barry’s ‘coverage’ of the seasons I had ‘missed’.

Mr. Barry, wherever you are3 – you continue to do the Lord’s work.

  1. He once provided this as a definition: “A sense of humor is a measurement of the extent to which we realize that we are trapped in a world almost totally devoid of reason. Laughter is how we express the anxiety we feel at this knowledge.”
  2. Go horned frogmen!
  3. Probably Sweden.
